About the event
The house at Great Dixter dates from the 15th and 16th centuries with an Edwardian addition by Sir Edwin Lutyens, architect and designer, who also designed and supervised the laying-out of today's gardens. Â Â Now owned by a charitable trust, it is world-renowned not only for its gardens but also as a centre of horticultural education. Â By special arrangement, we will arrive at 10.00am, earlier than the normal opening time of 11.00am, to give us exclusive access to the gardens and plenty of time before lunch. Â Light lunches can be bought at The Logia Cafe (or bring your own packed lunch, to be eaten at tables provided nearby).
After lunch, about 1.30pm, we depart for nearby Pashley Manor, Ticehurst, arriving about 2.00pm. Â Pashley Manor, originally built in the 16th century, with 18th century additions, is a private home in an 11 acre garden rescued and restored by the present owners over 10 years and opened to the public in 1992. Â All the elements of a classic English country garden are here - herbaceous borders, lawns, rose gardens, a walled garden, ponds, kitchen garden, all with the backdrop of a grade I - listed house. Â We leave Pashley about 4.30pm getting back to Claygate at 6.00pm.
Both gardens are private.  The cost of £62.50 (which includes a £4 fee for the earlier arrival at Dixter (worth every penny!)) is based on 20 people (max 25 capacity).  No refunds will be given but tickets are transferrable to other CGS members.
If booking for more than one member, please give us the additional name.
