Say Hello to Your New Self-Service Digital Membership Card

Over the Summer I’ve made a big change to how you get your Claygate Gardening Society membership card. Hopefully, it’s a lot more convenient.

Previously, digital cards were emailed out to members individually, and Google Wallet cards haven't been reliably working at all. From today, that’s changed: from today you can now add your card straight to your phone’s wallet yourself, whenever you like, whether you’re on iPhone or Android.

How it works

Head to the Members Area on the website and you’ll see two new buttons:

Add to Apple Wallet and

Add to Google Wallet.

Tap the one that matches your phone, and your card appears instantly: your name, membership number, membership type, and expiry date, plus a QR code for quick check-in at our events (the QR code is just for us, no one else!).

Your card is available as soon as your membership payment is validated by a member of the committee and your details are up to date, no more waiting for an email to land in your inbox.

Already renewed your membership? Lost your card? Just tap again!

If you renewed and want an updated card, simply generate it again, the new one automatically replaces the old one in your wallet, so there’s never a duplicate sitting around.

If you renew in the early-bird period (to be announced soon) - you will be able to download your digital card for 2027 straight away.

Prefer a physical card?

Digital is now the default, but if you’d still like a physical card, one is available for a small extra cost on renewal. Everyone is eligible for a digital card, but physical cards will only be issued from Jan 1.

Why we built this

Emailed cards have been lost, or buried in an inbox, in spam, or have required extra steps on our side to activate that, with limited team, are tough to maintain. A digital card lives in the one thing most of us always have on us (not all, and that’s ok), updates itself, and works reliably on both iPhone and Android. It’s faster for you at events, and it means our small team of volunteers spends less time chasing card requests and more time doing what we actually love — gardening.
