National Trust Leith Hill Place, Dorking, Surrey, are running a “tea, talk and walk in the historic Rhododendron Woods” event from 1.00pm-5.00pm on 1st and 2nd of April.  The event will be hosted and guided by Seamus O’Brien, an authority on the renowned Victorian botanist, Joseph Hooker, who brought many of the rare and old specimens to Leith Hill from his journey in the Himalayas. With a passion for rhododendrons, Seamus is Chairman of the Irish branch of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Rhododendron Camellia and Magnolia Group.  Seamus has numerous honours including the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland’s Gold Medal of Honour, the Royal Horticultural Society’s Loder Rhododendron Cup and is a Fellow of the Linnean Society.


After tea and the talk, “From Sikkim to Surrey”,  in Leith Hill Place, when Seamus will share his expertise and insights into rhododendrons, he will conduct a walk around the historic woods. Created by Caroline Wedgwood, a keen botanist and sister of Charles Darwin, who lived at Leith Hill Place in the 1800s, the woods contain many original species sourced from Asia, the Himalayas, China and Thailand.  


Nearest parking is at the Rhododendron wood car park. Normal parking charges apply. NT members park for free.
