Our March talk by Belinda Allen – Companion Planting, Gardening the Organic Way – was a fascinating look at how to attract beneficial insects, birds etc. to your garden and, equally important, how to deter the pests that do so much damage to our flowers and vegetables.
We learned about creating our own ecosystem within our gardens, and using beneficial companion plants to assist the production of healthy produce without the need for pesticides and artificial chemicals.
Belinda helpfully provided a list of friends and foes: which plants complement and assist each other and those that shouldn’t be together.
She also provided recipes for home-made pesticides.
If you are a paid member of the society you can access the handout provided at the talk in the Members only area here, as well as share your own tips, talk feedback and questions.
